MEFTIES RUN CLUB
MEFTIES RUN CLUB
Welcome to Mefties Run Club!
Mefties Run Club (MRC) is proudly running for MEF2C Haploinsufficiency Syndrome (MCHS), a rare genetic disorder that affects the development of the brain and other systems in the body. It occurs when there is a mutation or deletion in the MEF2C gene.
Mefties Run Club is a new intiative by MEF2C Foundation Australia to fundraise and raise awareness for MCHS. MRC is mostly a virtual club; the Mefty community is far flung but well connected. Our goal is to grow awareness of MCHS through the act of running!
Being able to run is a privilege. It is not something everyone can do, including many with MCHS. People run to get fit, to feel good, to meditate, to regulate, and to socialise. MRC is using its able-bodied privilege to run for all those reasons, and to represent those with MCHS. As “Mefties” is the affectionate name we give those in our community with MCHS, it makes sense as the name of our new run club!
Right now there is a worldwide running craze - it seems like everyone is doing it! If you’ve caught the running bug and are thinking about lacing up for a big event, we hope that you’ll consider running for Mefties Run Club and nominate MEF2C Foundation Australia as the charity you’ll run for.
If you would like to start a campaign, the best way is via GoFundMe, where you will find MEF2C Foundation Australia when you search for your charity. If you need any assistance along the way, don’t hesitate to reach out via info@mef2cfoundationaustralia.org.au
And if you start a campaign we’d love to help you promote it! You can follow MRC on Instagram and Facebook.
